Formative Years follows one character from birth to adulthood. Early experiences remain part of the Life rather than disappearing at 18.

Childhood and adolescence

The childhood household establishes parents or guardians, siblings, home, family identity, country and early circumstances. Formative moments cover care, play, school, friendship, confidence, boundaries and the pressures surrounding the household. Education develops with age through early learning, school subjects, teachers, friendships and later teenage decisions; it does not wait until Adult Life or use an adult course screen from birth. See 5. Education & Student Life for the full journey, and 20A. Countries, Visas & Life Abroad for how the starting place remains part of that history.

Exact opportunities still depend on the Life. An age gate makes a system possible; it does not promise that every action is immediately available.

Pets and local people can be part of childhood and family history, but the adult controls for starting a Business, gaining a driving licence and owning a vehicle open later. See 16. Pet Life and 17. Community Life & Local Connections for how those connections continue into adult Life.

Turning 18

At 18, the adult appearance milestone and transition arrive inside the same save. Identity, traits, relationships, education, household history, memories and formative choices continue forward.

Turning 18 and carrying the character's history into adult Life

Adult Life opens its full daily rhythm: Command, Day Planner, Calendar, Day/Week/Month Pace, Career, Bank, HOME, adult relationships, Trips and wider independence. Living with parents can continue if that is still the household's situation.

What formative history changes

Early education can affect later courses and jobs. Family stability, hardship, friendship and traits influence the pressures and options the adult character meets. The history is meaningful context, not a permanent sentence; retraining, repair and second chances remain possible.

How Formative Years plays

Early play focuses on a smaller set of meaningful choices because a child cannot manage an adult household. Parents or guardians handle the wider finances and housing, while the player shapes connection, confidence, education, interests and responses to family circumstances. As the character becomes more independent, Command reveals more areas and decisions.

Age progression is deliberate. A Life may move through longer childhood stretches between important moments, then slow down when school, friendship, work or identity needs the player. The character's personal traits develop from repeated behaviour and formative choices; they provide context and tendencies rather than locking every future response.
